Boice-Willis and Nash UNC Cardiology teams collaborate

Boice-Willis Cardiology Joins UNC Cardiology at Nash

Boice-Willis Clinic and Nash UNC Health Care are combining cardiology resources to better serve the community’s cardiology needs.  As of May 1, Boice-Willis Cardiology providers, Dr. Sudhir Prasada and Adult Nurse Practitioner Phyllis Hayes will become part of UNC Cardiology at Nash.

“Despite the increasing complexity of medical care, public demand remains simple: the highest quality at the lowest cost,” said Dr. Michael Holland, immediate past-president of Boice-Willis Clinic.  “Recognizing this, the leadership of Boice-Willis Clinic and Nash UNC Health Care have realized that collaboration is the best way to satisfy this demand. Jointly, we are pleased that the two preeminent medical institutions that have provided quality care to our community for decades are combining forces to offer cardiology services. With the cutting-edge expertise provided by UNC Cardiology, our community will be able to obtain the highest level of cardiology services locally by providers known and trusted for years.”

Dr. Prasada and Ms. Hayes will continue their daily clinical practices in their same location at Rocky Mount Medical Park, as well as provide procedural services at Nash UNC Health Care.

“Nash UNC Health Care and Boice-Willis Clinic working together better serves our community’s cardiology needs,” said Prasada.  “UNC Cardiology provides great resources and benefits to both patients and physicians, helping us continue to improve the medical care we provide to this community.”

The collaboration demonstrates stronger relationships between the two health systems and allows for expansion of services, according to Nash UNC Health Care president and CEO L. Lee Isley.

“We are excited that we’ve been able to build stronger relationships with Boice-Willis Clinic in order to improve the holistic approach to patient care in our community,” said Isley.  “This type of collaboration allows for a higher level of coordination of care between the hospital and their cardiology and primary care providers. Having a unified team of cardiologists in our community allows us to further invest and specialize in key heart services our community needs.”

Dr. Michael Yeung, medical director of Cardiology at Nash UNC Health Care explains the breadth of specialty now provided by the cardiology team.

“We are currently expanding services such as opening a heart failure clinic as well as providing support services for pacemakers and long-term cardiac monitoring devices,” said Yeung.  “Together, we now have a whole team of cardiologists that have interests in heart attacks, minimally invasive valve interventions, electrical abnormalities, peripheral vascular disease and heart failure.  We look forward to working even more closely with Dr. Prasada and the providers at BWC to deliver comprehensive cardiology care in our community.  We believe that working together is the right step forward for the community of Rocky Mount.”

Dr. Martha Chesnutt, executive physician of Boice-Willis Clinic, explained that Boice-Willis Cardiology patients will continue to receive cardiology care from the same providers at the same location.

“We have mailed letters to our cardiology patients explaining the new relationship, and that the only thing that has changed is the practice phone number,” said Chesnutt.  “I am looking forward to a closer collaboration between Boice-Willis Clinic and Nash UNC Health Care to expand cardiology services in the community.  Both groups provide high quality, patient-centered care.  Together, we will be able to grow services offered and create a team of providers to meet the needs of our community.”

Dr. Paul Bondy, president, Boice-Willis Clinic, explained, “The two oldest and largest medical care providers in our community are working together with a renewed spirit of community caregiver team- building to deliver coordinated and state of the art heart care in our service area.  This approach allows UNC Cardiology at Nash to meet patients’ cardiology needs where they are already comfortable doing so, at their local primary care provider’s office.  This collaboration also allows Dr. Prasada to continue and expand his clinical offerings.”
