Nash UNC Health Care to Host Annual Healthy Heart Fair on June 2
Nash UNC Health Care is hosting its fourth annual Healthy Heart Fair on June 2, 2022 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the Nash Heart Center.
The purpose of the fair is to provide the community with healthy heart practices and helpful resources on how to deal with heart-related emergencies.
The fair will include various activities and informational booths located on the first and second floors of the Nash Heart Center. Those who attend will find information about early heart attack symptoms, smoking cessation tips, women’s heart health, heart-healthy nutrition, and much more. Blood pressure checks and hands-only CPR lessons will also be offered.
With heart disease continuing to be the leading cause of death in the United States, Sarah Heenan, executive director of the Nash Heart Center, said she hopes the fair will educate the community on the importance of adopting a heart-healthy lifestyle.
“We hope to educate the community about heart disease. There are many risk factors for heart disease present in our region, so we hope to help improve the quality of life in our community. In addition to the education we will provide at the fair, we are offering a free lipid test to the first 50 people in attendance, which provides attendees with their cholesterol numbers and can help determine their risk for heart disease,” Heenan explained.
The Nash Heart Center staff will also conduct tours of the facility. Attendees will be required to wear masks and undergo a brief COVID screening prior to entering the building for the event.
Heenan is hopeful members of the community will take advantage of the resources provided during the fair and will make plans to attend.
“We all want to remain healthy, but most of us don’t know where to start. The Healthy Heart Fair helps people understand how to take care of themselves to prevent heart,” said Heenan.
Free snacks, giveaways, and door prizes will also be available during the event, and one attendee will win an Apple Watch for participating in the fair.
