UNC Health Nash Foundation Receives Donation from Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation
The UNC Health Nash Foundation received a $2,700 grant from the Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation to help UNC Health Nash feed neighbors in their time of need. The gift will be used to provide disease-specific food options to qualifying patients, which helps to alleviate the stress patients often feel as they transition back into their home setting after being hospitalized.
“We are incredibly grateful for the generous support from the Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation grant that will enable us to provide nutritious meals from our Inpatient Food Pantry to some of our most vulnerable patients. Thanks to this grant, we can continue our mission of improving the health and well-being of our community,” said Kathleen Fleming, UNC Health Nash Foundation Director.
The UNC Health Nash Inpatient Food Pantry ensures qualifying patients have access to healthy meal options after leaving the hospital. Eligible patients receive food boxes at the time of discharge, customized to their medical condition or dietary needs. The hope is that patients will be able to heal at home without having to worry about where their next meal is coming from. The Inpatient Food Pantry opened in August 2021 and continues to serve about 50 patients monthly. Through donations, the UNC Health Nash Foundation was able to contribute $70,000 to start the Inpatient Food Pantry. Additional funds will be used to expand the reach of the program for patients in our outpatient areas. The funding provided by Food Lion Feeds will allow the Inpatient Food Pantry to be fully stocked for three months.
The Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation is committed to supporting families facing food insecurity across its 10-state footprint. Established in 2001, the foundation provides financial support for programs and organizations dedicated to feeding local neighbors in the communities it serves.
