The First Nash Baby of the Year 2024

The first baby born at UNC Health Nash is always a highly anticipated event, and this year the wait was not long at all for the first bundle of joy to arrive. At 12:57 AM on New Year’s Day, Genesis Alajhia Turner was born to Alicia and Damien Turner at the Nash Women’s Center, weighing 6 pounds and 3 ounces.

“It’s an honor and a blessing to have the privilege of birthing the first child of Nash County in 2024 at the Nash Women’s Center,” said mother Alicia Turner. “The staff have been amazing.”

Brothers Tobias, 7, and Khalique, 2, proudly welcomed their new little sister into the world and displayed their pride with big, happy smiles. The Turner family said they look forward to big brother Damien, 19, meeting Genesis for the first time since he was unable to be there for her birth on January 1.

Terese Hunt, owner of Decadent Gifts and Designs, partnered with the Nash Women’s Center to make a gift basket loaded with goodies for the Turner family to take home with baby Genesis. Similar to a care package, the basket contains various items to help care for the new baby in the first few days. Hunt includes items in the basket purchased from or donated by local businesses, in addition to others goodies for the new baby and her family.
