Overview

Coastal Plain Hospital has served the surrounding communities of Nash and Edgecombe counties and Eastern North Carolina since 1994. A Joint Commission-accredited, 50-bed hospital, we are dedicated to the provision of the highest quality care to assist individuals and families in need of psychiatric care and treatment for substance abuse in an atmosphere that is compassionate and dignified. Coastal Plain Hospital offers inpatient hospitalization services to adults 18 and older who need psychiatric and addiction care. Our services include acute psychiatric care, substance abuse treatment, and medical detox.

Our staff is dedicated and passionate about the recovery of the patients we serve. The treatment team at Coastal Plain Hospital is committed to developing treatment plans that are individualized for each patient and will serve the patient’s psychological, social, and physical needs. This creates the foundation for a healthy recovery and improved quality of life. The treatment team meets daily to review and update treatment goals. Led by the physician medical director, the clinical team consists of: registered nurses, recreational therapists, counselors, social workers, mental health specialists, and other professionals.

Because crisis can occur at any time of day or night, our licensed behavioral health specialists take referrals 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. We accommodate both voluntary and involuntary admissions. You can receive more information about the referral process or any of our services by contacting Sheryll Barnes, community outreach coordinator, at sheryll.barnes@unchealth.unc.edu, or you may make a confidential referral using our referral line at 800.234.0234.
